Michael Uhlenkott, supreme artist of exotica, is far from an armchair tiki doodler. His exquisite designs are informed by extensive research and travel throughout the South Seas. A fervent Polynesiaphile, he is currently assembling a gazetteer of that legendary region.
In 1994, he founded the
Robert Dean Frisbie Society in honor of that noted South Seas
adventurer-journalist, and organized the 1996 RDF Centennial Exhibition
in Rarotonga, Cook Islands. An avid surfer, he is a member of
the Trail Six Surfrider's Club, serves as editor of their journal,
Kuttin'Turkey, and is forming a gay surf club. In his spare time,
he enjoys playing the harpsichord and the ukelele.
